Count the combinations, not just the trucks
A fleet of trucks with attached trailers has a different parking pattern from tractors that drop trailers and leave. Include every configuration you expect to bring through the gate. State whether trailers will be loaded, whether units move daily and whether another driver needs access while you are away.
Record overall lengths and widths instead of relying only on model names. Mirrors, hitches, trailer tongues and equipment carried on a flatbed can affect the practical footprint. If the fleet grows during a project, provide both your starting count and expected peak.
- How many trucks, trailers and connected combinations will be on site?
- Which units must be independently accessible?
- Will drivers arrive together or at staggered times?
- Will outside carriers drop off or collect trailers?
A parking bay is only part of the route
Check the complete movement from the road to the assigned space. Ask about gate width, the driveway approach, internal corners and the space available to reverse or turn. A bay that fits a stationary vehicle does not establish that the vehicle can reach it comfortably.
For detached trailers, discuss where the tractor can line up, couple and pull out. For equipment trailers, include ramp deployment and the unloading path. Confirm that any shared lane will stay available for circulation rather than assuming it can double as overflow parking.
Match access to the dispatch schedule
Iron Yards' standard includes gated 24/7 access, fencing, lighting, camera monitoring and month-to-month terms. Before committing, confirm how drivers receive access, how an access problem is handled and which site rules apply to your vehicles.
Explain if you need overnight storage between daily runs, longer-term trailer storage or a project staging base. Also disclose any need for idling, maintenance, charging, fuel storage or driver facilities. These are separate requirements and should never be assumed to come with an outdoor parking space.
Choose a location by the working route
The closest yard by straight-line distance may not be the easiest departure point for your fleet. Compare the route at the time drivers actually leave, including the last local streets and the gate approach. Ask about surface condition for your loaded units and how standing water is handled.

Can I request parking for trailers without trucks?
Yes. Select Trailers on the main form and include the count, dimensions, loaded or empty status and expected pickup frequency. Acceptance and availability are confirmed for each location.
Are assigned parking spaces available?
Ask whether the proposed arrangement uses assigned bays, an exclusive area or shared parking. The answer depends on the yard and the arrangement offered; it will be confirmed before move-in.
Does truck parking include repair or driver amenities?
Do not assume those services are included. List any repair activity, restrooms, power or other facilities you require so they can be addressed in the availability discussion.
